Courtenay Shito Ryu Karate Club is rooted to one of the four major traditional styles of karate. We focus on physical conditioning (aerobic ftness and endurance, stretch and fexibility), self defence training, sparring and forms practice (basic blocks, kicks, punches and body shifting).
Develop self confidence, discipline, concentration and sportsmanship. Courtenay Karate is a member of the National Karate Association and affliated with Sport B.C. and Sport Canada, enabling interested students to compete in events such as the B.C. Winter Games.
The Courtenay/Comox Shito-ryu karate club is hosting the 11th annual 'Island Friendship Karate Tournament' on Saturday April 30th at the Comox Community Center. The action gets under way at 9:30 am with beginner belt levels and Team Kata. This all Island event will include Kata (forms), Team Kata (synchronized forms) & weapons in the morning. Kumite (Sparring) for both adults and kids from beginner to black belt is scheduled for the afternoon.
